The first thing to keep in mind to achieve a satisfactory result is that the glass grinding stage immediately follows the glass cutting stage: in fact, immediately after obtaining pieces in the required sizes and formats, the glass grinding stages can be proceeded with to add value and uniqueness to each individual sheet of glass. Specifically, Carrying out glass grinding with our TL series enables the removal of impurities and sharp glass edges that usually remain from the live cutting stage and obtain glass ready for its final use. In fact, at this stage, the corners and edges of the glass sheets are worked into a trapezoidal shape that can be flat or rounded, which makes the glass sheets immediately more finished, shiny and pleasing to the eye. In addition to giving the glass a finer and more elegant shape, glass grinding very successfully reduces the risk of breakage due to accidental impacts or due to extreme hot-cold conditions that can cause thermal shock. In addition, grinding is an inescapable process on vetrole before glass tempering, a process that greatly improves the strength and safety performance of glass.
To achieve perfect grinding on glass intended for furniture, in the first stage of glass grinding we recommend relying on the action of stone or diamond grinding wheels; then the treatment can proceed with a second cleaning and further edge refinement through a Polishing carried out with very fine-grained diamond wheels. After polishing, a cerium wheel gives the edge of the glass a polished finish; this produces the famous polished edge grinding. The edges obtained by this process can be of different shapes and finishes depending on the type of grinding wheel used. Although this succession of operations is ideal for high-quality glass intended for furniture, generally glass grinding is a necessary activity for any type of application for which the glass sheet is intended, so the steps we have highlighted can safely also be used to grind glass with a different purpose.
We therefore recommend that a proper and accurate glass grinding with Lattuada grinding machines on any occasion, as this operation enables the removal of any impurities from the glass panes and prevents the glass from breaking in subsequent processing steps such as, for example, washing. In any case, in the case of glass for furniture, it is impossible to obtain high-quality decorative glass that has not been processed and beveled through grinding!
